However, the Team is only available to active duty military.
I would love to ride, but am super slow....anybody else riding that averages about 16-17 at best?

If you already have a decent bike you can overcome any perceived disadvantages on the bike by simply training harder. It no different than the swim, if you are a weak swimmer, a top of the line wetsuit won't make you swim faster nor will a new pair of shoes allow you to run faster if you haven't trained to that level... I'm sure others would disagree but if already have an aero bar and a decent set of wheels any other upgrades aren't going to make a major difference. Shaving a couple grams of bike weight is just going to shave a couple ounces out of your pocketbook.
