I have not had much of a season so far this year, I haven't even competed in one event. I have trained but for what.............. my own sanity. I have been struggling with work and family life and the general get you downs that we all deal with. I ran the Colfax Half Marathon with a terrible time and the realization that my foot really was acting up. Normal diagnosis of Plantar Faciatis. Spelling???? and to give it rest.
I have come to two conclustions even today. 1. I will train and only ente…

Three critical components to plan for when designing a training prescription to improve your triathlon running.
1. Specificity - You must practice running after cycling, often called 'brick training.' Even the best runners will struggle after cycling if they have not specifically trained for the triathlon run. Brick training only needs to be done once or twice a week and you do not have to run the entire distance of the run portion of your race. A word of caution, don't overdo the brick trainin…

Nothing will slow you down or stop you like heat and humidity. As the temperatures rise in June and July, so does the number of heat-related problems experienced by triathletes. Most experts agree that your body will acclimatize to heat and humidity--mostly in the first two to three weeks of exposure, and maximally after about two months. However there is a genetic limit on how much you can acclimatize.
We can't all have the genetic gifts and ability that Dave Scott and Mark Allen had to tolera…

If you're in the need of some good cycling & tri gear, I recommend you check out TEAM JAGGAD at www.jaggad.com. Jaggad has some great deals with their different levels of team membership. I've worn quite a bit of Jaggad clothing in the past year and almost exclusively run & ride in their gear. This is an Australian company, which accounts for the kangaroos on their green/yellow team kit and the occassional use of "whilst" in their e-mails. The people that work there are awesome--the owne…

Team....I have completed my first marathon while in the Marine's. I finished it in 4:35 and some change...my break down was a 10:31 pace. I was tired when I got back. I crampped around my 21 mile mark and my calfs felt like they had a heart beat all by them selves. I wish I knew that we could bring our IPODS or MP3 players, that would have been so much better on the run. I feel better after a week or so after the race and I think I am crazy enough to get ready for another. I have not decided if…

Water temp was about 60ish...it was nice though compared to the cove over the past week. The military started in wave 13 so 35 minutes after the original wave. Before the start there was a large group of us from Camp Pendleton, MCRD, and else where around the country that gathered had a few pics and got in a quick swim.
The Swim

So...I have said that I will never get sucked into the triathlon world but I am starting to give in. I went and bought my first pair of REAL running shoes. You know, the kind you buy at a specialty running shop and not from Wal-Mart. I liked running when I was in high school so I thought I would give it a try.

All:
I really hope some of you can make it to the February 7th Cycle For ALS event. Yes we are trying to raise money but even more importantly we are working on raising awareness of the terrible disease. We are hoping that each person can get $100 woth of donations for ALS but anything helps! Even if we don't raise our goal I want there to be tons of people at the event just checking out the kicking REI Flagship store Down town Denver which is always fun as well and showing support for the ride…
