Well, considering I've only learned how to swim a total of 8 months, I feel pretty great in the pool. This last week I've swam 4 days, and of those 4 days, 3 of them I could feel a huge difference in my technique. I'm more relaxed, I can hold my breathe longer and learned how to efficiently glide in the water, take less strokes, plus manage keep my feet afloat without too much kick. I'm just amazed the difference I feel in the water considering the swim is my biggest fear. Instead of having that dreaded feeling of the swim, I'm actually more worried about my run instead!
Although open water swim is a bit overwhelming, and I did have one day of open water experience in the "warm up" area...I think I'm going to be "ok". I just have to visualize being in the pool and remember to "site" in between 3-4 strokes! When I start thinking of what might be underneath, the slimy critters swimming around and how pitch black it looks under water, then I start getting the butterflies. Focus...focus...focus. Crazy! I can't believe I'm going to be racing in less than 2 days!
The one part that worries me is what to eat in the morning and how early I should eat. I have an allergy to eggs and milk so those are out - but I intend to have my 2 cups of coffee, my usual routine and a banana?? I don't normally eat breakfast...coffee IS my breakfast! If anyone has any ideas or comments...HELP! I just don't want to end up with a cramp or too full. Bagels, waffles, pancakes, muffins and even toast I can't stomach. Any breads make me nauseous in the morning. Will fruits be okay??
