Well I did it...and LOVED it! I completed my 1st Triathlon in less than 2 hours like I had hoped. I felt good on the swim although I didn't go the whole swim freestyle and had to throw in some breast stroke through the first 1/2 of the swim trying to get acclimated to the water temperature. It was so cold putting my face into the water that it just took your breath away. But after I made it to the 2nd buoy, I was able to get some freestyle into the latter 1/2 of my swim.
I felt great on the bike and enjoyed the scenic views along the way...pretty flat course other than a very small incline. The spectators and support along the way helps push you through the course. The volunteers and families along the way always keeps you motivated...they were all great! Thank you!
After getting off the bike, I wasn't prepared for the LACK of feeling in my legs. Took a couple of minutes to get the feeling back in my legs and feet and I was able to start my run with a light jog. I felt great up until mile 2 when my knees started to act up on me. Felt like a metal prod getting jammed into my knees. The pain was just excruciating; whether I walked or ran, it HURT...bad!! So, I just ran my way into the finish since either way it was just painful.
Back to the drawing board...going to continue my strength training so hopefully it will correct my issues with my knees. I'll be competing in another one for sure...the positive energy and rush of the race is addicting!
